Karen Herbert joined The Colorado Education Initiative (CEI) in 2015 as a director in Professional Learning. She supports educators in building capacity to gather and use a variety of data about students, educators, systems, and learning environments to drive continuous improvements that will lead to success for all students.
Before joining CEI, Karen worked for Denver Public Schools, where she developed and launched innovative measures and tools to evaluate the impact of teachers and school leaders on student learning. Previously, she worked with districts in Arizona and with the state of Texas on the development of educator effectiveness systems and performance-based compensation initiatives. She has also conducted research on teacher turnover and on initiatives and strategies for building capacity in schools to improve teaching and learning.
Originally from Dallas, TX, Karen has a Ph.D. in education policy and planning from The University of Texas at Austin, a master’s degree in education measurement and quantitative methods from Michigan State University, and a bachelor’s degree in psychology and marketing from The University of Texas at Austin.
